Garlic Day at the Centralia Farmers Market

Aug. 27 at the Centralia Factory Outlets parking lot next to Papa Pete's Pizza; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Centralia Farmers Market will host vendors from the Garlic Fest, which was meant to be held over the weekend but was canceled due to staffing issues.

Ryderwood Townwide Sale

Aug. 27 and 28, Ryderwood; 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Many residential sales around town and a super sale at Pioneer Hall. There will be a hot dog lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the cafe both days. 

Spaghetti Dinner and Bake Sale

Aug. 27 at the Bucoda Community Center, 101A E. Seventh St., Bucoda; 6 p.m.

Proceeds will go to Steve and Laura Purcell, who lost their home in Bucoda to a house fire on July 30. Spaghetti, garlic bread, salad and pie will be served. $10 per person, family of four costs $30 with $5 for each additional person. Contact Lou Ann Hoffman at 360-736-6717 for more information.

Friends of the Winlock Library Book Sale Fundraiser

Aug. 28 at 300 NE First St., Winlock; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Books will be sold by donation. Proceeds will go to the Winlock Timberland Library. Call 360-785-3461 for more information. 

Cornhole Tournament

Aug. 28 at the Riverside Golf Club, 1451 NW Airport Way, Chehalis; registration open at 12 p.m. Tournament is 1 to 4 p.m.

Twin Cities Cornhole Club and Community First Auto Center are hosting a cornhole tournament at the Riverside Golf Club to benefit the Lewis County Forgotten Children’s Fund, which gives Christmas presents to underprivileged families. The cost to enter is $25. 

Chehalis Chapter Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation 29th Annual Banquet and Auction

Aug. 28 at the Jester Auto Museum and Event Center, 321 Hamilton Road, Chehalis; 4 p.m.

Tickets must be reserved in advance, none will be sold at the door.

Movies by the Dashboard Light

Aug. 28 at the Veterans Memorial Museum, 100 SW Veterans Way, Chehalis; 9 p.m.

The Veterans Memorial Museum shows car-themed films at this drive-in movie theater on the last Saturday of the month. First come first serve. Admission is by donation to the museum. Popcorn, drinks and food available. For more information, call 360-740-8875.

SEPTEMBER

V-J Day Commemoration 

Sept. 2 at the Masonic Memorial Park, 455 North St. SE, Olympia in front of the Spanish War memorial; 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The Sacajawea chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution are sponsoring this free V-J day event to honor WWII veterans. There will be speakers including local mayors, Tumwater councilwoman Debbie Sullivan and a keynote speaker from JBLM. Attendees should bring their own chairs. 

Rust or Shine Car Show and Music Festival

Sept. 5 at the Veterans Memorial Museum, 100 SW Veterans Way, Chehalis; 9 a.m.

This is the sixth annual “Rust or Shine” show; funds are raised for the Veterans Memorial Museum and all kinds of vehicles — rusty or shiny — are welcome. Pre-registration is $15 per car with the ability to order a T-shirt for $15. Day of registration is $20 a car and $20 for the T-shirt. Contact the museum at 360-740-8875 for details.

Lewis County Cemetery District #1 Monthly Meeting 

Sept. 8 at the cemetery office, 407 Cowlitz Road, Winlock; 7 p.m.

These meetings are held on the second Wednesday of every month. 

Writers Conference

Sept. 10 and 11 at Centralia College

New and seasoned writers alike can learn from Friday’s master classes, Saturday’s keynote speakers or both at this conference. Until Sept. 7, participants can choose one day for $90 or both days for $160 or pay $110 for one day at the door.
