Dacus Dazzles in Win Over Tigers

In the first softball Swamp Cup matchup of the season, W.F. West blanked Centralia behind the arm of Kamy Dacus, shutting out the Tigers, 4-0, Friday afternoon at Recreation Park in Chehalis.

The senior hurler dominated in the circle, throwing a complete game shutout and striking out 13 of the 22 batters she faced, with just one walk and one hit allowed. Both base-running appearances for the Tigers came from Ella Orr, who drew a walk in the first inning and slapped the Tigers’ first hit in the sixth inning to break up the no-hitter.

“Kamy was Kamy today,” Tigers coach David Orr said. “I was happy with our defense today, and we’ll start to make adjustments at the plate and build off that.”

At the plate, the Bearcats did enough to send runners across, with Rachel Gray slapping a single that scored their first run of the game in the second inning, and Brielle Etter scoring on a passed ball in the third.

The Bearcats scored their last two runs in the fifth, with Avalon Myers scoring on an error and Dacus scoring after Breanna Crosby grounded out with the bases loaded.

The Tigers (2-2, 0-2 2A EvCo) will look to rebound against Black Hills on Monday, while the Bearcats (3-1, 2-0 2A EvCo) look to keep it rolling against Shelton at home.
