The Sacajawea Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, in partnership with Masonic Memorial Park in Tumwater, will hold a Wreaths Across America ceremony at 1 p.m. Dec. 14.
The event is meant to pay tribute to local fallen veterans by placing wreaths on their graves.
The ceremony will take place at the Spanish War Memorial in Masonic Memorial Park, located on Cleveland Avenue south of North Street by about 400 feet and across from Gunderson Dental Care in Tumwater.
The ceremony will include local veterans representing all branches of the military.
Sons of the American Revolution will act as color guard and distribute wreaths. Olympia Highlanders Pipes & Drums will perform a tribute. The Sacajawea Chapter of the Daughters of the Revolution will conduct the ceremony and distribute wreaths to those in attendance.
There will also be other local dignitaries.
The wreaths will be placed by loved ones and members of the public on Masonic Memorial Park graves at the conclusion of the ceremony.
“Participating in this ceremony is a tangible way for attendees to say ‘thank you’ by acknowledging and recognizing veterans’ service, sacrifice and commitment to the preservation of our nation’s freedom,” the Sacajawea Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution stated in a news release.
The Sacajawea Chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution is composed of members from Thurston, Lewis, Mason and Pierce counties.
