Decomposing Bodies Found in Bronx Apartment After Neighbor Below Reports Maggots Coming Through Ceiling

NEW YORK — Two badly decomposed bodies were discovered in a Bronx apartment — after the downstairs neighbor complained maggots were coming through her ceiling, police said Sunday.

Officers suspect the dead man and woman were victims of a murder-suicide.

The concerned neighbor in the apartment below called 911 abut 5:45 p.m. Saturday to report maggots were dropping from her ceiling on Creston Avenue near E. 184th Street in Fordham Heights.

Police came to conduct a wellness check on the apartment above, officials said.

Before police could even open the door they were overwhelmed by a foul stench, sources said.

Inside the apartment, they found a woman dead on the couch in the living room and a man on the floor nearby. A gun was found next to the man, sources said.

Investigators suspect a murder-suicide and are working to identify the victims, who were so decomposed they were unrecognizable, sources said.

The city Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy on each victim to determine their causes of death.
