Dirtbags Split Twinbill with Hudson’s Bay

The Rural Baseball Dirtbags completed a walk-off win over Hudson’s Bay in game one, then couldn’t beat the Cubs, or nightfall, in a 4-2 loss in three innings on the back end of the doubleheader that was called due to darkness Tuesday in Winlock.

In game one, Daymon Gressett scored on a walk-off rollover to short to give the Dirtbags an 8-7 victory in seven innings.

Gressett was superb at the plate, going 4 for 4 with four stolen bases and two runs. Dylan Mills was 3 for 4 with a stolen base and two runs and Todd Tabor went 2 for 3.

“Mills swung the bat well with a nice easy stroke,” RBI skipper Jordan Nailon said. “Gressett was a force at the plate and on the base paths.”

RJ Workman pitched 3.1 innings of relief to bring RBI to their inevitable offensive explosion. He finished with five strikeouts and just one hit and was praised by Nailon for his performance.

Mekhi Morlin, pitching for the first time since injuring his back, went 2.1 innings for the win, notching three strikeouts and allowing a lone hit.

“He was peppering fastballs in relief and was extremely effective to make the comeback possible,” Nailon said.

In game two, the Dirtbags allowed four runs in the first inning and couldn’t climb back in it before darkness fell, taking a 4-2 loss in three innings.

“We should probably learn how to play a game without relying on a late-game rally to push us over the top,” Nailon said. “But what do I know?”
