Doris A. Hogue

Doris A. Hogue, 93, passed away peacefully at Maple Street Manor in Pe Ell, Wash., March 4, 2021. Doris had a long battle with dementia in her later years. She was born July 19, 1927, in Greely, Colo., and was one of nine children to Earl and Anna Steiger. She attended High School in Kent, Wash.
Doris had various jobs throughout her life, she was a checker at Safeway, K Mart, and a cook at the Boistfort School system, to mention a few. One of her most interesting jobs was as a lookout person based at the old Klaber Store in the Boistfort Valley, listening for enemy aircraft for the United States government. Doris was also active in the community being a Boy Scouts den mother, as well as a 4-H and Girl Scouts leader. Doris enjoyed gardening, traveling to Reno, camping and bingo. She liked to enter all types of contests and won many prizes and trips for herself and her family. She loved Mariner baseball and the Seahawks. She also loved to attend her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s many events.
Doris is survived by her children, Jacque (Dave) Hill, and Scott (Punky) Hogue; sister, Gladys Cruse; six grandsons, Curtis, Chad, and Casey Hill, Kevin, Carl, and Conner Hogue; seven great-grandchildren, Melissa, Delanie, Angelo, Carter, Caitlyn, Henry, and Theodore; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, John in 2018; and her son, John Michael, who died in combat serving in the Vietnam War, July 23, 1968.
The family would like to thank the staff at Maple Street Manor for their loving care this past year and a half for our mother, Doris.
A private family graveside service will be held at the Claquato Cemetary at 10 a.m., Friday, March 12, 2021. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorial donations be made to Maple Street Manor, 239 McCormick Creek Rd, Pe Ell, WA 98572.
