Emma Barr’s Hat Trick Propels Beavers to Semifinals

Junior forward Emma Barr exploded for a hat trick and Tenino girls soccer romped to a 3-0 shutout of Castle Rock in the opening round of the 1A District IV Girls Soccer Tournament at home Monday.

The Beavers win their fourth straight, move to 10-1 overall and advance to the district semifinals against King's Way Christian (7-0-1) at 6 p.m., Wednesday, in Vancouver.

On Monday, Barr scored her goals in the 17th, 28th and 35th minutes, off assists from Molly Craig and Grace Vestal on the final two goals, respectively.

“I can’t say enough about how well Emma stepped up in a big moment,” Tenino coach Kevin Schultz said.

The Beavers blasted 33 shots and held Castle Rock to just three, including only one on target, which Trinity Tafoya cleaned up. The Beavers only scoring three goals off 33 shots was due to Castle Rock loading the box in hopes of preventing an onslaught of goals. To give a better picture, the Rockets’ keeper finished with seven saves while their field players blocked eight shots.

“I’ve never seen that… they literally just put players in front of the goal,” Schultz said. “One of their defenders just stood next to their goalie like a second keeper. Give credit to our players. As a team, we played really well.”
