Errors, Lack of Run Support Spells Defeat for Ony

Hoquiam’s offense was humming and Onalaska’s defense faltered as the Loggers took a 12-4, non-league road loss to the Class 1A Grizzlies on Monday.

Ony ace Dylan Zigler surrendered 12 runs on 10 hits, and the Loggers’ defense committed six errors — three in the first inning, another in the third and two more in the sixth — all of which was too much to overcome.

Zigler walked four batters, but Ony coach Rich Teitzel said she still threw a commendable complete game.

“We have to cut the errors down and give a little run support, plain and simple,” Teitzel said.

Senior Hannah James, who was a Chronicle all-area selection last season, made a spectacular diving catch in center field to rob the Grizzlies of an extra-base hit.

James and Raelee Holmes each drove in a run, while Alex Cleveland-Barrera walloped a two-run homer in the fifth.

Teitzel gave a shout out to the Grizzlies, who allowed the Loggers to bring their junior varsity team along to play after the varsity game under the lights.

Onalaska (1-2) next hosts Toledo at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

“We will get back on the field and work on cleaning up our game,” Teitzel said.
