Events and ceremonies to mark Veterans Day in Lewis County

Veterans Day is Monday, Nov. 11, and local veterans organizations and schools throughout Lewis County are preparing to host events honoring those who have served in the United States armed forces.

The following is a list of dates, times and locations for events in Lewis County.

Morton Jr/Sr High School Veterans Day assembly

At 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, Morton High School will host its Veterans Day assembly inside the school’s gymnasium, located at 152 Westlake Ave. in Morton.

Veterans, their families and friends are all invited to attend.

Prior to the assembly, veterans are invited to a reception inside the gymnasium beginning at 1 p.m.

 

Morton Elementary School Veterans Day assembly

At 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, Morton Elementary School will host its Veterans Day assembly inside the school’s gymnasium, located at 400 Main Ave. in Morton.

Veterans, their families and friends are all invited to attend.

 

Onalaska High School Veterans Day assembly

At 9 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, members of the Onalaska High School National Honor Society will host the school’s Veterans Day assembly inside the school’s gymnasium located at 540 Carlisle Ave. in Onalaska.

During the ceremony, family members of U.S. Army Specialist Fourth Class Thomas Kinsman will be presented with a plaque honoring him.

Kinsman, an Onalaska High School graduate, was awarded the Medal of Honor in 1969 after he jumped on a grenade while on patrol near Vinh Long, Vietnam, in 1968. He survived and ended up moving back to Toledo, where he lived until he died in 2017.

Veterans, their families and friends are all invited to attend.

 

Chehalis Middle School and James Lintott Elementary Veterans Day assemblies

At 7:50 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, Chehalis Middle School will hold a Veterans Day assembly. Chehalis Middle School is located at 1060 SW 20th St. in Chehalis.

Then, at 9:15 a.m. on the same day, James Lintott Elementary will also hold a Veterans Day assembly. James Lintott Elementary is located at 1220 Bishop Road in Chehalis.

Veterans, their families and the public are all invited to attend.

 

Veterans Day 5K run



At 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, the Veterans Memorial Museum, together with the nonprofit Veterans Journey Forward, will host the Veterans Day 5K run, which starts and finishes at the museum located at 100 SW Veterans Way in Chehalis.

Registration for the run is free and starts at 8 a.m. The first 50 runners will receive a free shirt.

 

American Legion Grant Hodge Post 17 Veterans Day ceremony and bean feed

At 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, members of American Legion Grant Hodge Post 17 will host their annual Veterans Day wreath-laying ceremony.

During this time, members of the post will also hold an American Legion Post Everlasting ceremony honoring post members who have died within the past year.

The Centralia High School band will perform music for the ceremony.

Grant Hodge Post 17 is located at 111 W. Main St. in downtown Centralia.

This event is free to attend, and the public is invited to participate. Following the ceremony, the post’s bean feed will begin. It is also free to attend.

 

Veterans Memorial Museum Veterans Day program

Starting at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, the Veterans Memorial Museum will host its annual Veterans Day program.

The program will feature a speech from David Konkler, outreach manager for Nine9line Veteran Services and retired U.S. Army staff sergeant who served as a tank gunner and deployed twice to Iraq in 2005 and 2010.

This program is free to attend. On Veterans Day, admittance to the Veterans Memorial Museum is free as well.

The museum is located at 100 SW Veterans Way in Chehalis.

 

Veterans Day luncheon in Toledo

At noon on Monday, Nov. 11, veterans and their families are invited to a free Veterans Day luncheon at the Winlock Senior Center, 119 SW Kerron St., Winlock. For more information, call 360-864-2902.

 

W.F. West High School Veterans Day assembly

Starting at 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12, W.F. West High School will host a Veterans Day assembly.

During the assembly, members of the Washington Army National Guard units from Centralia will be taking part in the ceremony with their honor guard.

Veterans, their families and friends are all invited to attend.

During the ceremony, Army National Guard members will present W.F. West with a new U.S. flag to fly as well.

W.F. West High School is located at 342 SW 16th St. in Chehalis.
