Extra-base hits power Riverhawks over Mountaineers

Six different players notched a double or a triple in helping the Toledo High School softball team secure a 14-4 non-league win over Rainier on Monday night at home.

Of the Riverhawks (1-0) 14 hits, nearly half of them went for extra bases. Four of the six were triples and Peyton Holter plus Kailea Lairson combined for five runs batted in. Lairson and Ellie Seeley each notched three hits.

Toledo broke the game open with a six-run bottom of the second and after Rainier (0-2) scored four in the top of the fifth, the Riverhawks answered with a five-spot in the bottom half to enact the run-rule win. Holter and Brenna Carver allowed just two total hits and recorded 11 combined strikeouts.

Keira Anderson finished with a double and an RBI for the Mountaineers while Ellyana Henry drove in a pair of runs. They’ll hit the road again on Tuesday to take on Tenino while Toledo will host Centralia on Wednesday.
