A Beaverton man died after falling from a hiking trail near Multnomah Falls on Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

The man, who has not been identified, was half a mile up the trail from Benson Bridge when he fell, plummeting 100 to 150 feet, said John Plock, a Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson. The man was on the trail with his wife and five children, Plock said.

Deputies responded to the fall around 2 p.m. His family could not see where he landed, Plock said. Officials searched near Historic Columbia River Highway, and found the man’s body in nearby brush.

A woman hiking in the same area died after falling 100 feet near Wiesendanger Falls in August 2022. She was with friends when she fell.
