Bucoda mayor, volunteer firefighter, truck driver and ranch owner Rob Gordon was recently diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer.

On Dec. 17, in honor of the jack-of-all-trades, Skookumchuck Odd Fellows Lodge No. 129, Bucoda Rebekah Lodge No. 144, Trinity (Napavine) Rebekah Lodge No. 179, Bucoda Improvement Club, Bucoda Firefighters Association and the Tenino Fire Department are “banding together,” according to a news release.

Beginning at 3 p.m. in the upper floor of the Bucoda Community Center, the groups will host a spaghetti, salad and garlic bread dinner, coffee and punch, an auction, and a “Fill the Helmet” donation drive. All proceeds will go to the Gordon family.

A flier for the event lists the timeframe as “3 p.m. until ??????”

Local businesses will support the event with auction item donations. Tickets for the benefit will cost $15 per person or $40 for a family of four. Groups of more than four guests will cost $15 per guest, the event flyer said.

Gordon began chemotherapy on Nov. 27.

“His work has been greatly curtailed owing to doctors appointments and treatment sessions,” stated a news release from event organizers. “Come enjoy a spaghetti dinner, bid on auction items and support the Gordon family during this difficult period.”

Bucoda bar Joe’s Place is selling “Robby Burgers” throughout December in honor of Gordon. Half the proceeds from burger sales will go to Gordon and family.
