Five Beavers Qualify for State Meet

Posted

With just the top three in each event qualifying for state in most events, the competition was fierce at the 1A Track and Field District 4 Championships Thursday afternoon at Seton Catholic for the Tenino track and field teams.

Four Beavers made the automatic qualifying cut, and another met the state qualifying standard, with three boys and two girls moving on to represent Stone City at the State Championship meet next week in Yakima.

For the boys, Blaine Schott took second in the 200-meter dash with a personal best run of 23.52, and Andres Zamudio took third in the shot put with a personal record toss of 44 feet, 8 inches.

Though Carson Schall finished fourth, just outside of the top three that automatically advance, the sophomore met the state qualifying standard in the 110-meter hurdles and will advance to the state meet, running it in 16.27. The qualifying standard set by the WIAA in that event for boys is 16.40.

On the girls side, Trinity Tafoya took second in the shot put with a 36 foot, 7 inch throw, and Paisley Garcia took second in the 300-meter hurdles in 50.31 for a PR.

Those five Beavers will move on to the state championship meet next week, starting on Thursday, in Yakima.
