Frances Lois McMahan: 1926-2021

Frances Lois McMahan, resident of Randle, Washington, died on Aug. 11, 2021, in Morton, Washington. She was 94 years of age. 

Frances was born on Nov. 23, 1926, at the family home in Cora, Washington, daughter of Jacob and Ruby (Smith) Pittman. She grew up in Randle graduating from Randle High School. On Dec. 26, 1945, Frances married Norman McMahan. 

Norman and Frances operated Cowlitz Meadows Dairy Inc. founded by the McMahan family in 1883. Frances was a homemaker dedicated to her family and raising their five children. 

Frances was a long-time member of the Illahee Garden Club, the local bowling league and the Randle United Methodist Church as well as a member of the Cowlitz Indian Tribe. She was very active and enjoyed hiking, trips to the mountains, clamming at the beach and watching the local basketball team play. Above all else, she loved her grandchildren. Frances was a hard worker, a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother and an active member of the Randle community who will be dearly missed. 

Frances is survived by her four children William McMahan, Marilynn Davis, Ross McMahan and Jake McMahan, along with her 12 grandchildren and her 29 great-grandchildren. Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, her son, Allen “Butch,” and her siblings, Hubert Pittman, Marguerite O’Brien and Eileen “Swede” Goodwin. 

A graveside service will be held on Monday, Aug. 23, 2021, at 10 a.m. at Silver Creek Cemetery in Randle. A reception will follow at the Randle United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made in memory of Frances to the White Pass Scholarship Fund.
