A community recycle event will offer Lewis County residents an opportunity to recycle several materials and offer proper disposal for others on Saturday, June 14, in Pe Ell. All drop-off activities will take place near Town Hall, 111 Main St.
E-cycle collection, yard waste drop off, scrap metal recycling and household hazardous waste collection will be offered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the event. A mobile shredding truck will also be at the event to accept sensitive documents for shredding and then recycling, but it will only be on site from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Participants should be prepared to provide proof of residency as the event is limited to Lewis County residential customers only. The event is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Certain recycling opportunities may end early if containers fill up. No garbage or other materials will be accepted.
As part of the e-cycle collection program, all flatscreen televisions, all other TVs less than 42 inches, computer monitors and CPUs will be recycled. Each household is limited to two items.
For the yard waste drop off, residents may bring grass clippings, leaves and branches and are urged to unload waste into the container and dispose of bags in their curbside garbage containers. No plastic bags or noxious weeds are allowed.
Any item that is more than 75% metal can be disposed of in the scrap metal recycling program. Participants must drain fluids from motors before recycling. Glass turntables from microwaves must be removed and discarded prior to the event. Household appliances, such as refrigerators, freezers, hot water heaters, stoves, washers and dryers, are accepted, but there is a limit of two per resident.
Each customer may bring up to three bags or boxes of documents they would like shredded. Additionally, residents can drop off unwanted household hazardous products, pesticides and other chemicals for free.
Limits include 10 CFL lights, five gallons of motor oil, five gallons of antifreeze, five gallons of cooking oil, no containers larger than five gallons, and no paint or PaintCare products. For more information, call 360-740-1451 or email swu@lewiscountywa.gov.
