Randle will host a free recycling event to offer East Lewis County residents an opportunity to recycle several materials and offer proper disposal for others on Saturday, April 26, at the Lewis County Public Works Department Area 7 Kiona Road Shop, 8911 U.S. Highway 12.
Computer and television recycling, appliance and scrap metal recycling, yard waste drop off, and household hazardous waste collection will be offered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the event, which is sponsored by the Lewis County Department of Public Works, Solid Waste Utility.
The event, partially funded by a Washington state Department of Ecology grant, is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Certain recycling opportunities may end early if containers fill up. No garbage will be accepted at the event.
All flat screen televisions, other TVs that are 42 inches or smaller, computer monitors and CPUs will be recycled. Each household is limited to two e-cycle collection items. Customers can drop off unwanted lawn or pool chemicals, cleaners, motor oil, antifreeze or pesticides, or other household chemicals. Because this is a remote event, workers will not be able to empty containers brought to the event. Customers must be prepared to leave their containers at the event.
The following limits and restrictions apply for the household hazardous waste collection:
• 10 fluorescent or CFL lights
• 5 gallons of motor oil
• 5 gallons of antifreeze
• 5 gallons of cooking oil
• No containers larger than 5 gallons
• No paint
• No PaintCare items
Any item that is more than 75% metal can be recycled, but customers are urged to drain fluids from motors before recycling. Appliances, such as refrigerators, freezers, stoves, washers, dryers, hot water heaters and dishwashers, are accepted, but there is a limit of two large appliances per household. Customers must remove the glass turntables from microwaves before coming to the event.
Residents may bring grass clippings, leaves and branches. No plastic bags or noxious weeds are allowed, and customers must empty the content of yard waste bags into containers and dispose of the bags in their curbside garbage containers.
