Freshmen lead way in Rochester victory

The Rochester girl’s soccer team won its season opener in an emphatic way on Tuesday, defeating Toledo 5-0.

Three freshmen scored in the first half to give the Warriors (1-0) an early lead, as Harley Frahman, McKenna Bocook and Lizzy Hoover all found the back of the net. Senior Sara Haury scored a brace in the second half to finish the scoring.

The Riverhawks (0-1) only had 11 players dressed for the game, but Rochester coach Matt Ashton applauded them for battling until the end and exposing some flaws that he says they’ll need to work on before their next game.

Ashton also said he is extremely proud of the entire team, especially the three freshmen, saying he hopes that is a good sign for the season to come. While he sensed some nerves early on, they settled in once the first goal was scored and quickly pulled away.

Both the Warriors and the Riverhawks take the field again on Thursday, with Toledo hosting RSB and Rochester traveling to Tenino. Both games will kick off at 6 p.m.
