Girls Golf: Eklund and Cabe Lift Bearcats Over Warriors

Natalie Eklund and Hadyn Cabe scored season best scores of 21 and 20 points, respectively, to help W.F. West to its best team score of the year in an 81-51 victory over Rochester at Newaukum Valley Golf Course on Wednesday.

“It was exciting to finish on a high note,” W.F. West coach Matt Klovdahl said. “The girls are excited for districts.”

Eklund was match medalist with her 21 points and Cabe’s 20 was good for second-best among all golfers. Laney Barker added 17 points, Makenna Klovdahl chipped in 12 and Joyce Stafford finished with 11 for the Bearcats.

Rochester was led by Amerika Jones’ 16 points, while Audrey Williams and Bailey McClellen each added 10 points a piece.

W.F. West finished third in league with a 4-2 record. Both teams travel to Tumwater Valley Golf Club next Wednesday and Thursday for the 2A District 4 Tournament at 10 a.m. both days.



Tigers Bested by Bobcats

Centralia had three double-digit scorers but couldn’t overcome a powerful Aberdeen team in a 77-44 loss at Riverside Golf Course on Wednesday in its regular-season finale.

Lily Miller scored a team-high 17 points for the Tigers, while Mazzi Nowicki and Sam Johnston each had 11 and Maddi Stoeckler added eight.

Aberdeen was led by match-medalist Britt Rajcich’s 28 points. Kaitlynn McCracken scored 18, Saylor Heikkila and Alice Earley each had 13 and Emalie Shelton chipped in five for the Bobcats.

Centralia and Aberdeen both head to Tumwater Valley Golf Club next Wednesday and Thursday for the 2A District 4 Tournament.
