Kaylin Todd scored a game-high 27 points and Adna put away Pe Ell, 57-45, in non-league girls basketball action Monday night in Adna.
The Pirates led 28-7 at halftime.
“I thought our pressure early on was good,” Adna coach Chris Bannish said. “Once we had to get out of our pressure stuff we weren’t as good defensively, but full court, we were as good as we’ve been for the first three games.”
Todd went 12 of 20 from the field. Karlee Von Moos added eight points and 11 rebounds for Adna, while Faith Wellander chipped in with nine points.
Charlie Carper led Pe Ell with 20 points and played well, Bannish said.
Adna (3-0) plays at Morton-White Pass at 5 p.m. on Wednesday. Pe Ell (2-3) plays at Mossyrock on Wednesday.
The Timberwolves nearly lost control in the fourth quarter, but held off a rally from host Stevenson on Monday for a 41-37 win in non-league 2B girls basketball action.
“We can’t do anything the easy way,” Morton-White Pass coach Curt Atkinson joked. “But I’m proud of the girls. They work hard.”
McKenzee Mays led the Timberwolves with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Natalia Armstrong added 10 points with 10 boards.
MWP led 36-21 going into the fourth quarter, but a few too many turnovers helped the Bulldogs close the gap.
“A lot of it was just bad passes. When you feel pressured, you revert back to habit, so if your habits are bad, it’s not going to turn out good,” Atkinson explained. “We have a lot of time to work on that, so hopefully we can get some of that changed.”
Emarey Hampton added two points, with 12 rebounds, for MWP.
The Timberwolves (2-2) host Adna on Wednesday in Morton, then play at Toledo on Friday.
Lauren Rotter scored 17 points and Rochester put away Centralia, 38-31, in both teams’ Evergreen 2A Conference girls basketball opener Monday night in the Hub City.
Madison Bates and Megan Elkins each added seven points for the Warriors, who tallied 17 steals as a team.
“It was a very physical game. I was really proud of our girls,” Rochester coach Davina Serdahl said. “It was definitely a first-game outing, so we’ve got some work to do, but I was proud of our defense and our composure for the most part.”
Bates added nine steals for Rochester and Sofie Sand — who missed last season with a torn ACL — grabbed 12 rebounds.
Jadyn Hawley led Centralia with nine points. Mikayla Chavez added seven, and Maddie Corwin scored six with eight rebounds.
The Tigers, however, were just 6 of 20 from the foul line.
“That kind of hurt us, there, and just our shooting wasn’t great,” Centralia coach Doug Ashmore said. “Six days of practice isn’t when you feel you’re ready, but it is what it is. It was a good game and both teams were pretty evenly matched, and I loved our effort.”
Centralia (0-1) plays at Tumwater on Wednesday. Rochester (1-0) hosts Shelton on Wednesday.
Every Bearcat that entered the game scored on Monday night as W.F. West opened its season with a 69-11 Evergreen 2A Conference girls basketball win over Shelton.
Drea Brumfield scored 21 points with 11 rebounds to lead the way. Olivia Remund scored nine points with six rebounds — one of five players with a career high — and Kyla McCallum added a career-high 13 points and five boards.
“It was a really good team win,” Bearcat coach Kyle Karnofski said. “We probably forced 35 turnovers. We upped the tempo a little bit, and that was something kind of new for us.”
Morgan Rogerson had a career-high five points, and freshmen Carlie Deskins (six points) and Lena Fragner (two) both scored in their first varsity appearances.
“To come out and hold a team to 11 points, have every girl score and have a great time and play a game for hte first time in 400-some days, it was great,” Karnofski added. “It was fun to play basketball and play somewhat normal, and our girls did great. It was a lot of fun to be back together.”
W.F. West hosts Ridgefield in a non-league game on Wednesday, then plays at River Ridge on Thursday and at Aberdeen on Friday.
