Gladyan D. “Jimmy” (Lockhart) Mitchell, 96, passed away peacefully at her Tenino, Wash., home Friday, Feb. 19, 2021, with her family by her side. Gladyan was born Sept. 23, 1924, in Experiment, Ark., to James Marvin and Tinnie Ellen (Stevens) Lockhart.
She graduated from Jonesboro-Hodge High School in 1939. She served in the United States Women’s Army Corps during World War II and was stationed in Florida, where she met and married Charles William Mitchell Sr., Aug. 6, 1944. She was a long time member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses organization and was baptized in 1956, in Liberty, Mo. She worked for several years at K.U.M.C. in Kansas City, Kansas and retired from there in 1984.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her mother and father; brother, Joseph Marvin; and sister, Clairice Toms.
Mrs. Mitchell is loved and missed by her three sons, Charles W. Jr. of Columbia, Mo., James N. (Roxanne) of Tenino, Wash., and Leonard T. of Gladstone, Mo.; two daughters, Tiny I. Sampel of Kansas City, Mo., and Gaye Bellinger of Liberty, Mo.; a sister, Mollie Mozella Kehl of Haslet, Texas; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Per her request, there will be no memorial service. She will be laid to rest beside her husband, Charles, in Forest Grove Cemetery in Tenino, Wash., at a future date.
