Grays Harbor County Settles for $1.35 Million in 2021 Prison Death

Posted

Grays Harbor County settled out of court in a wrongful death suit centered around an inmate who died by suicide while detained in the county jail in early 2021.

Andrew Clark, 33, was found hanging in his cell early the morning of Feb. 17, 2021, The Daily World previously reported. The Mason County Sheriff’s Office carried out the investigation into the death.

Following the death, a claim was filed by Clark’s mother Silvia Clark alleging negligence and civil rights violations leading to Clark’s death, according to a news release.

After taking part in mediation, Grays Harbor County settled for $1.35 million and, as part of the settlement, denies any liability for Clark’s death.
