Guest Column: Celebrate 211 Day with United Way of Lewis County

Posted

211 is an information and referral service that connects people to life-changing resources. On Feb. 11, 211 Day will be celebrated nationwide. Don’t know about 211 Day? That’s OK. To celebrate 211 Day, United Way of Lewis County will be hard at work raising awareness for 211.

Here’s what you need to know and how you can participate:

Visit our Facebook page (facebook.com/unitedwaylewiscounty), where you can find a tip or a story each day leading up to Feb. 11. Hear first-hand how and why 211 is an important and successful tool for lifting people out of poverty and helping people reach and maintain self-sufficiency.

Join us as the city councils of Centralia and Chehalis recognize 211 Day with proclamations, and join us as the Lewis County Board of County Commissioners do the same.

Look out for us on Steve George’s Evergreen Journal on KELA!

Are you looking to become a champion for 211? Donate to United Way of Lewis County. United Way of Lewis County is committed to lifting 30 percent of families out of poverty by 2030. We identified access to resources as one of our key focus areas, and with your support, we can achieve our goal by the end of the decade.

Can’t donate? That’s OK. A lot of people remain unaware of 211, and simply by spreading the word, you can make a difference in someone else’s life.

If you have any questions about 211, or would like your agency’s resources to be in the 211 database, please reach out to me at resource@lewiscountyuw.com or 360-748-8100.

The South Sound 211 Call Center operates Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Dial 211 to get connected. You can visit wa211.org at any time for access to resources.
