W.F. West’s top two singles players in Emma Hamilton and Emery Dalrymple fought through tiebreakers and close encounters to triumph in two and three sets, respectively, to push W.F. West over Aberdeen 5-1 on Monday afternoon on the road.
Hamilton claimed a 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 win over Sophie Kuntson at No. 1 singles and Dalrymple recovered from losing the first set to claim a 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) triumph. Bearcats head coach Megan Wellander was pleased with the adjustments they made.
“They both really battled today,” she said. “Emma was able to hit some good shots; Emery was trying for too specific of a target, then she adjusted.”
All of W.F. West’s doubles teams cruised in straight sets. Manta Ceesay and Ellie Mittge (No. 1) plus Katelyn Wood and Lilly Hueffed (No. 2) won 6-0, 6-0. Aubrey Prigmore and Joy Pulard pulled out a 6-1, 6-3 victory.
The Bearcats will face a Class 2A District 4 foe and one of the best teams in the GSHL, Columbia River, on the road on Tuesday.
