Heddy Godwin of Centralia passed away peacefully on December 31, 2019 at Easthaven in Yelm after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Heddy Pearl Allen was born on July 29, 1933 in Ira Virginia the 4th of 13 children, to Emery and Eula Allen.

Her family moved to the Glenoma, Washington area when Heddy was about 13 years old.   She attended high school in Morton and resided in Washington for most of the rest of her life.

Heddy  was preceded in death by both of her parents, Emery and Eula Allen, of Glenoma; 3 brothers… Lance “Pete” Allen of Glenoma, Russell Allen of Silvercreek, and Roger Allen who resided in Yelm at the time of his death; 3 sisters… Mildred Justice of Glenoma, Gladys Shortridge of Morton, and Jewell Allen of Glenoma; her step daughter Lawrie Vanderwal of Shelton; grandson Kevin Godwin of Shelton; and great grandson Karl Dean.

Heddy worked in the food industry most of her life.  She worked in several restaurants and for the Shelton School District.  She owned a little café in Shelton, called the Country Biscuit, for a while.  She held other jobs over the years as well but she was most proud of her time at the Washington State Patrol Academy in Shelton, where she retired after 14 years of service.

Heddy loved entertaining and spending time with family.  She was never happier than when cooking for a crowd.  She hosted a lot of wonderful Christmas parties, Pumpkin Patch get togethers, oyster feeds, and barbecues.

She had a reputation as an excellent pie maker and made many wedding cakes. She was an excellent seamstress as well and made many wedding dresses and formals.  She would volunteer to help everyone with weddings and other celebrations.  She worked in the kitchen at many church functions.

She loved gardening, raising horses, and spending time with family.  She always did whatever she could to help people.  In fact, right up until her death, she did whatever she could to help her friends and neighbors at Easthaven.  She will be sorely missed.

Heddy is survived by sons Greg (Cindy) Mattocks of Yelm, and Don (Martha) Lynn of Morton; daughters Brenda (Tom) Cleveland of Shelton, Linda Mattocks of Olympia, and Debi Watters of Brady; stepsons Ron (Linda) Godwin and Ross (Lena) Godwin of Langley; along with sisters Geneva (Elvon) Self of Glenoma, Janice Johnson of Centralia, Nadine (Howard) Smith of Glenoma, Lorraine (Boyd) Mead of Glenoma, Marlene (Chad) Hunt of Glenoma; and brother Charlie (Judy) Allen of Chehalis; also many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren; and a plethora of nieces and nephews.

Heddy will be laid to rest at Shelton Memorial Park on Friday, January 10 at 1 p.m.  There will be a memorial service on Saturday, January 11 at 11 a.m. at the Jesus’ Name Pentecostal Church at 204 Jefferson Ave. n.w. in Yelm.  Potluck to follow.
