Last week, Lewis County elementary students, teachers and law enforcement met up in “Safety City:” a brightly-colored, miniature city designed to teach young children safety basics.
Safety City, held this year at Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers in Chehalis, is a national program focused on teaching young children the fundamentals of safety. It’s been a regular field trip for kids in Lewis County since 1984.
It’s one of the rare opportunities firefighters, law enforcement from different agencies, 911 dispatchers and railroad employees come together with a common goal of educating Lewis County youngsters.
More than 700 students toured Safety City in 2023, ranging from Adna, Fords Prairie, Oakview, Jefferson Lincoln, Lintott, Washington, Napavine and Pe Ell elementary schools, according to previous Chronicle reporting.
