In Loving Memory of Alma Mohrle 1932-2022

Alma Mohrle, age 89, passed away peacefully on the morning of June 30, 2022, in Tumwater, Washington. She had relocated to the Olympics West senior living community about one year ago after selling the house and property she loved and had shared with her late husband, Fritz, in Onalaska, Washington.

Alma Held was born on Aug. 12, 1932, and raised in Mywiler-Opfenbach, a dairy farming village in southwestern Germany. She was the oldest of five children. After World War II had ended, she studied home economics and child development. This led to various jobs in both Germany and Switzerland. Having an adventurous spirit, she set out with a friend to travel around the world. Her first stop was New York, USA. During her time in New York, Alma attended a German Bible study group, and through mutual friends, met Fritz Mohrle, who had previously worked in New York for a Swiss company, and relocated to Los Angeles, California, having had the opportunity to buy a clock import business. What started out as a long-distance relationship, resulted in marriage in 1967. Alma and Fritz resided in Glendale, California, for many years and raised two children: Andrea and Markus. Upon Fritz’s retirement in 1993, Alma and Fritz moved to Onalaska, Washington, to enjoy the quieter life and return to agricultural roots on their 40-acre property.

Homemaking was important to Alma. She loved to cook tasty, nutritious meals for her family and guests. She was also passionate about gardening and loved to travel. She and Fritz both continued to be active in church and Bible studies, and were longtime members of the Community Presbyterian Church in Onalaska.

Alma Mohrle was preceded in death by her husband Fritz, as well as her parents, Fritz and Maria Held, who remained in Germany. She is survived by all her siblings, who also remain in Germany, as well as her children, Andrea in Olympia, Washington, and Markus in Encinitas, California.

A memorial service will be held on July 30, 2022, at 2 p.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church in Onalaska.
