In Loving Memory of Barbara Young: 1942-2022

Posted

Barbara Kathleen Young ("Kathi" and "Cookie" to close family and friends) passed away peacefully on July 7, 2022, with loved ones by her side. The youngest of eight children, Kathi grew up in Lodge Grass, Montana then moved to Seattle in her early 20s. She met her future husband, Gerald Young of Centralia, while working at Boeing. They wed in 1964 and settled in Federal Way, Washington to raise their two daughters. After retirement, they resettled in Rochester, Washington.

Kathi is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Gerry and their dog, Belle; her daughters Niki (Jim) and Kelly (Brian); and her dear grandchildren Breanna, Cat, Anna and Dan. She is also survived by her sister, Donna (L.P.), and several nieces and nephews.

Kathi's family was the centerpiece of her life and she will be dearly missed. She loved animals of all shapes and sizes and through the years opened her heart to countless cats, dogs, birds, raccoons, etc.

In lieu of flowers, feel free to honor our wife, mom, grandma in one or more of the following ways:

- Feed the birds.

- Appreciate the nature around you.

- Eat some salted apple slices.

- Give your pets a treat and pat on the head.

- Visit a loved one and greet them with an extra tight hug.

- Crank up the ABBA and dance in your living room.

She would have also appreciated donations to the Lewis County Animal Shelter (or one close to you).
