In Loving Memory of Carolyn Kay (Shelton) Schmit: 1941-2021

Posted

Carolyn Kay (Shelton) Schmit was born in Walla Walla, Washington, on July 28, 1941 to parents John and Ruth Shelton. She passed away at Providence Hospital in Portland, Oregon on Sept. 1, 2021. She was raised on a fifarm in Garfield County and attended school in Pomeroy, Washington, graduating in 1959. She attended business school in Spokane after graduating high school and shortly thereafter moved to Seattle with a friend. She found employment in a bank and while employed there met the love of her life, Allen Schmit. They married in 1962 and after living for a short time in Seattle, moved to Napavine, Washington, where they took over the family dairy farm from Allen’s parents. They were blessed with three children, Dan (Nancy) of Napavine, Washington, Jodie (Bird) Stanley of Onalaska, Washington, and Kathy Meeker of Canby, Oregon. Allen and Kay were married just shy of 25 years and shared a loving, wonderful life together. After 34 years of waiting, she is with him again in the presence of our Lord.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Allen, and her son-in-law Bruce Meeker. In addition to her children, she is survived by her brother Mike Shelton of Langley, Washington; eight grandchildren Kaylie, Brady, Kendall, Megan, Dustin, Danny, Nathalie and Corinne; plus 11 great-grandchildren. A multitude of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends will miss her dearly.

Kay loved her family and relished the time she was able to spend with them. She also loved the Lord, enjoying her church family and her Bible studies with close friends. She will be missed.

Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9 at Napavine Cemetery, 800 E. Grand Blvd., Napavine, Washington 98532. A reception will follow at Cowlitz River Ranch, 363 Brim Road, Onalaska, Washington, 98570.
