Dale McCalden, fondly known as "Mac," passed away peacefully on Oct. 9, 2024, at Longview Hospice House in Longview, Washington, at the age of 74. He was born on Feb. 20, 1950, to Robert and Nina (Driver) McCalden.

Mac is survived by his wife, Sherry (Macomber) McCalden, with whom he shared 54 cherished years. He was a proud father to his children, Bobby and Julie (Sever) McCalden; and Julie (McCalden) and Charles Mills. He was also a beloved grandpa to Kaleb, Joey, Eva, Ian and Lucy. In addition to his wife, children and grandchildren, Mac is survived by his siblings, Sharon (McCalden) and Jim Wedam; Carolyn (McCalden) and Scott Lindsey; and Larry McCalden. He will be dearly missed by his family and close friends, along with many others whose lives he touched.

Mac was devoted to his family and always ready to lend a helping hand to his friends and community. He built a long and respected career at Weyerhaeuser, where he was deeply involved in union activities. As a representative, committee member and president of the W130 Local Union, Mac was dedicated to the rights and wellbeing of his fellow workers.

His commitment to service extended into his community, where he volunteered as a firefighter, EMT and commissioner for Lewis County Fire District 16. He also served on the Pe Ell School Board, the Pe Ell 5th Quarter Club and coached youth baseball, investing in the next generation with the same dedication he gave to his work and family.

Mac’s passions included woodworking, carpentry, hunting, fishing, gardening and reading. He found great fulfillment in crafting with his hands, working in his garden and enjoying the outdoors.

Mac’s legacy is one of selflessness, loyalty and service. His sense of humor, his work ethic and his belief in family, friends and community will be remembered by all who knew him.

A celebration of life and potluck luncheon will be held at the VFW Hall in Pe Ell at 1 p.m. Nov. 15, 2024. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Doty Fire Department: LCFD  No. 16, P.O. Box 131, Doty, WA, 98539.
