Drew “Boogie” Douglass, 14, of Chehalis, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 19, 2021 at home. He was born on March 19, 2007 to Steve and Jennie (Majeski) Douglass.
He spent the first eight years growing up in Montesano, Washington, where he rode bikes, sledded the hills, and swam in the Wynoochee River. He was known by everyone as the little guy with the dress shirt and ties. The family moved to Chehalis where he spent the remaining years of his childhood. He was a strong young man with a heart bigger than a full moon. He radiated joy with his contagious smile. He welcomed friends and strangers everywhere he went, from the baseball field to the park or the campground, he had a way of making everyone feel included. He nestled comfortably in adult conversations and added witty jokes hanging with the good ol' boys. He had a knack for decorating and was meticulous about prepping for the party. He was eager to gather with friends and family. He adored his older brothers Lane and Jacob, emulating them often.
He was a country boy at heart with a fierce passion for music. He looked forward to the Oregon Jamboree Country Music Festival. Through the years he worked himself through the crowd to center stage for autographs and pictures with his favorite artists. He proudly took ownership in creating playlists for entertainment.
At just 14-years-old, he could outwork most grown men. He had an unmatchable work ethic with incredible talent operating heavy machinery. He vested himself in landscaping the property around the house. He would beam with pride over all the machines he learned to operate to clear brush, create driveways, access roads, build fences, level rock and grind tree stumps. He'd trim the grass and edge the yard, cut fithe firewood, and help with anything that was asked of him. This never felt like work for Drew because it was all about making an impression and making people smile. He was an easy-going kid, who always aimed to please.
He loved playing team sports because relationships were meaningful and he loved being a part of something bigger than himself. He did not care as much about playing as he did in celebrating other people's success. He patiently awaited our friends and family’s annual adventures to Walupt Lake to camp, Neah Bay to slay fish, and Mt. Bachelor to ski and snowmobile. The boys fished and hunted year round, sharing in this experience with his beloved dogs, Boone and Oakley. He had devotion and loyalty to his family and couldn't wait to celebrate every holiday together.
Drew had an artistic eye and appreciated the beauty of God's creation. He would marvel at the sunset and find peace in nature. It captivated him and he wanted to share that beauty, calling attention to anyone that would quickly come look and appreciate it. As you see a miraculous sunset, be still, take it all in and remember him.
Drew is preceded in death by his great-grandparents Mary and Joseph Zembal, Wanda and Frank Sr. Majeski, Virginia and Junior Klock, Donna and Bob Cribbs, and Edna and Chick Morton.
He is survived by his parents Steve and Jennie Douglass; his brothers Lane and Jake Douglass; and grandparents Rosemarie and Frank Majeski, Debbie and Steve Douglass, and Terry Hopsecger.
