In Loving Memory of Frieda Nisbet: 1927-2022

Posted

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Frieda M. Nisbet, at the age of 95.

She was born May 20, 1927, and passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 21, 2022.

She was the sixth of eight children born to Swiss immigrants, Roman Riebli and Anna Zurgilgen Riebli, on a dairy farm in Chino, California.

Frieda grew up milking cows with her siblings and was very proud of her Swiss heritage. She graduated from Chino High School in 1946 and went on to beauty college in Pomona, California. She owned and operated her own salon, Cut and Curl in Ontario, California.

Her slogan was “if your hair isn’t becoming to you, you should be coming to us.”

Frieda met James Nisbet, of Pomona, California, and they married in November of 1955. Together they had four children: Nancy, Robert, Frank and Richard.

In 1961, the family moved north to work on a dairy in Applegate, Oregon. In 1963, the dairy sold so they were on the move again.

They purchased a home in Chehalis, Washington, where Frieda resided until her passing.

The family loaded the camper in August of 1974 and headed up the Alcan Highway for an Alaskan adventure.

In March of 1975, Frieda and daughter Nancy enjoyed a month and a half long trip by train across Europe, visiting family in Giswell, Switzerland, where her parents were born.

In November of 2013, she had a wonderful time vacationing in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, with Robert, Cora, Dan and Nancy.

In February 2020, the family met up in Maui where Frieda was the matron of honor for granddaughter Coty’s wedding.

Frieda’s employment included the St. Helens Hotel, National Frozen Food’s, Wayne’s Photo Finishing and Chehalis School District until her retirement.

After retiring, she and Jim drove cross country in their fifth wheel travel trailer visiting friends and family and seeing the sights.

Frieda enjoyed entering the cow milking contests at the local fair, going to Francis for the Schwingfest and she loved her family reunions.

Frieda also loved bowling, clam digging, gardening, playing cards, traveling and visiting with everybody. She was still bowling league two to three days a week until March when she decided it was time to give it up. She loved life and told all of us that she had a wonderful life.

Frieda was preceded by her parents; her husband Jim; brothers Roman, Walter and Louie; sisters Anna and Margaret; stepson John and son Richard.

She is survived by her sisters Mary and Rosie; children Nancy (Dan), Robert (Cora) and Frank (Tina); stepson Jeff (Marlene); 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Please join us for a celebration of her life at 2 p.m. on July 21, 2022, at Creekside, (Mary McCranks), 2923 Jackson Hwy, Chehalis, Washington.
