Jerry Glaze left to be with the Lord on Nov. 14, 2024.
He is survived by his loving family who miss him greatly, including his two daughters, Kelly Linn Bluhm (Jerry), of Ocean Shores, Washington, and Jeri Kay Combs (Clark), of Bend, Oregon. His grandchildren, who he adored, are Sara Nicole Broderius, Mitchell Lewis and Erin Elizabeth Bluhm and Sidney Ruth and Russell Amos Combs. Jerry is also survived by his younger siblings, Tim Glaze and Louise Runyon.
Jerry was born in Silver City, New Mexico. The Glaze family moved to Onalaska, Washington, where Jerry attended school and met the love of his life, Ruth Nelson. They were married shortly after their high school graduation and soon left for Pullman, Washington, where he attended Washington State University. He remained a staunch Cougar the rest of his life. Jerry completed his teaching credentials and accepted a position with the Toledo School District, where he taught and coached for 31 years.
He and Ruth had the twins, Kirk and Kelly, before he came to Toledo and then, five years later, Jeri Kay joined the family. Both daughters followed in his footsteps and became educators.
Jerry and Ruth traveled the world after they retired. They experienced Western Europe, Japan, the Holy Lands, Iceland, etc., and Jerry even took a photo safari to Africa. Hawaii was always special to both Jerry and Ruth. It is here where their family will spread their ashes.
Jerry led a life of meaning and service. Well done, good and faithful servant. It is time for a well deserved rest.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Dec. 7 at Gull Harbor Lutheran Church in Olympia, Washington.
