Gladys Lynne (Powell) Lawrence passed quietly at home in Chehalis on Feb. 13, 2025. Glady was the daughter of Alice and Oakley Powell, born on May 20, 1932, at home in Crandon, Wisconsin. She was the youngest of six children, with five older brothers, Darrel, Frank, Harold, Waylon and Bill.
Gladys grew up in Wisconsin and later moved with her parents to Washington state where she graduated from Stadium high School and met her love, Stanley Lawrence. They married in 1951 and together had three children, Linda, Phil and Teresa. The family moved to Packwood in 1956, then moved to Randle in 1964, where they owned and operated “Modern Food” grocery store. Gladys and Stan lived in Randle until 2014.
Gladys was a faith-filled, family-oriented woman, known as a graceful person who always placed the needs of others ahead of her own. She was described as the “Wind Beneath the Wings” of her family.
Gladys is survived by her son, Phil Lawrence (Vicki); daughter, Teresa Rowland (Walt); granddaughters, Lyndsey Gallagher (Erik) and family, and Megan Warner (Brandon) and family.
Gladys was preceded in death by husband, Stanley Lawrence; her parents, Alice and Oakley Powell; brothers, Darrel, Frank, Harold, Waylon and Bill Powell; and daughter, Linda Lawrence.
A memorial celebration will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2025, at the Packwood Presbyterian Church, with a luncheon to follow.
