In Loving Memory of Herbert Duncan: 1928-2022

Posted

Herbert LaVerne Duncan stepped into eternity on Sept. 24, 2022. He was 94. His greatest achievement was loving the Lord God with all his heart, soul, mind and strength and loving others as himself. Through every blessing and every battle in his life, Herb never wavered from his faith in a sovereign God and salvation through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Herb was born in Chehalis on March 21, 1928. The first of four siblings, he grew up in Mossyrock, received his teaching certificate at Oregon State University and served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1952.

Married to Doris Anne Proctor for 67 years, Herb had a distinguished career in education as a teacher, principal, superintendent of public schools, then education and training director for Boeing and St. Joseph Hospital in Tacoma.

In addition to his wife, Doris Anne, Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Mildred Duncan, of Mossyrock, Washington, and brothers Elmore Duncan, of Portland, Oregon, and Donald Duncan, of Columbus, Ohio.

Herbert is survived by his daughters Kathryn Johnson (Wesley), of Everett, Sara D. Paz, of Gig Harbor, and Jennifer Duncan-Taylor (Dennis), of Sequim; two adored grandchildren Alexandra P. Cody (Carr), of Durham, North Carolina and Avery Paz, of Gig Harbor, and their father, A. Sonny Paz, of West Tawakoni, Texas; and Herb’s sister, JoAn Gallagher (Dan), of Longview, Washington, as well as many Duncan family cousins, nieces and nephews.

Herbert was buried at Tahoma National Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life at 1 p.m. on Nov. 12, 2022 at Edgewood Church of Joy, 1120 114th Ave. E. Edgewood, Washington, 98372.
