In Loving Memory of James Alvin Hayes: 1941-2021

James Alvin Hayes, age 80, of Chehalis, Washington passed away on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2021. James was born Aug. 17, 1941 to Cecile Zerah Poston and Orvill Alvin Hayes. Born and raised in Chehalis, Jim had great pride in his community and the people in it. Jim could often be found volunteering at the Veterans Museum or at the American Legion. Another favorite pastime would be drinking coffee and enjoying a patty melt at Dairy Dan’s.

Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1963 and served in Vietnam. Upon his arrival home, he worked in construction. In his retirement, Jim found pleasure in researching genealogy, cheering on the Seattle Mariners, socializing with his friends and family, and singing in the choir at his church, the First Christian Church of Chehalis.

Jim is survived by his nieces and nephews Steven Edwards, Tim Edwards, Cheryl Hadlock, Linda Moore and Brian Hayes.

James was preceded in death by his father Orvill Alvin Hayes and his mother Cecile Zerah Poston; brother Waldo Hayes; sisters Mary Lou and Margaret Edwards; and niece and nephews Earl Hayes, Brad Harris and Sue Harris.

A graveside service for James will be held Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Claquato Cemetery, 142 Stearns Road, Chehalis, Washington, 98532.
