In Loving Memory of Janice Starr Grasseth Fried: 1950-2021

Posted
Janice Starr Grasseth Fried, 70, died unexpectedly, Dec. 31, 2020, at St. Peter's Hospital in Olympia, from a massive stroke. She was nearly a lifetime resident of Washington State, having grown up and raising her own family in Mossyrock and lived in Yelm for the past 20 years.
Janice leaves behind three children, Sandie (Bill) Alexander of Yelm, Chris (Marnie) Fried of Salkum, and Angela Sneed of Yelm; as well as five grandchildren, William, Ashlee (Cody), Shayne (Aidan), Stephanie, and Nicholas; and her beloved great-grandchild, Alasdair Brandfas. She is also survived by her half-brother, Sandy of Vancouver; nieces, Kelli Syed of Orlando, Fla., and Kristen Potter of Temecula, Calif.; as well as numerous cousins; and many, many friends.
Janice was born Sept. 11, 1950, in Seattle, Wash. She was adopted and lovingly raised by Sandy and Myrt Grasseth of Mossyrock. Although Janice was an only child, she grew up with numerous cousins and always had family and friends staying with her. Janice married John Fried, June 10, 1967, and began to raise her family. She briefly lived in Alaska and California, but in 1977 returned to her family home that her dad built to raise her family. Janice took great delight in being a stay-at-home mom, attending every school function and sporting event of her three children. This tradition continued, and it warmed her heart and brought her so much joy, as she attended Shayne, Stephanie, and Nicholas' sporting events in Mossyrock, three generations of her family playing in the same gym.
After her children were grown, Janice went to work in the retail sector, eventually managing several locations of Dress Barn. Upon her retirement, Janice enjoyed reading, a lifetime endeavor which she proudly passed on to her grandchildren, puzzle books, and attending countless school and sporting events of her grandchildren. Janice was fiercely devoted to her family and friends, never forgetting a birthday and always making each and every holiday significant and memorable. Janice was a grand chronicler, always able to identify people in pictures, where it was taken, and the occasion, and passed on so many family stories and events to her children and grandchildren. Janice's legacy will be her immense love of family, the traditions she instilled, and her thoughtfulness and sweetness that will continue to be felt by so many that loved her.
Janice's celebration of life will be held, Covid restrictions permitting, at the Mossyrock High School Multi-Purpose Room, Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021, at 1 p.m.
