John Alexander Gibson died on Jan. 10, 2023, in Chehalis at the age of 91. He was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada to John Allister Gibson and Jessie Agnes Betts.
The family moved to Renfrew, Ontario where John attended school. He was on the Renfrew High School basketball team that won the provincial championship. John made the winning basket in the final seconds of the game.
After graduating from high school, John and two friends drove across Canada and ended their trip in Seattle, Washington. While attending a dance with his friends, he met his future bride, Edith Reese. They were married and John started his own business, Custom Carpets and Ceramics in Des Moines, Washington.
After selling the business he opened the Midway Mail Center where he and Edith worked until they retired and moved to Chehalis. John and Edith loved gardening and golf so they built a beautiful home overlooking the Newaukum Golf Course. They eventually moved to Stillwaters with their two dogs, Barney and Lucy.
John is survived by his wife of 69 years, Edith.; two sons, David (Carol) Gibson, of Alaska and Paul (Kathy) Gibson, of Olympia; grandsons Alex and Henry; and numerous relatives.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023, at Peace Lutheran Church, Chehalis.
