In Loving Memory of June (Baxter) Layton: 1928-2022

Posted

June (Baxter) Layton went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sept. 15, 2022.

She was born on June 19, 1928, to Mr. and Mrs. Orange Ray Baxter. June was the youngest daughter of a large family of nine children, which included four girls and five boys. She lived her entire life in Lewis County.

In her earlier years, she attended Cascade School, Union School, and she later graduated from Chehalis High School in 1946. Soon after, June attended the Modern Beauty Academy in Tacoma, Washington and graduated as a licensed cosmetologist.

To gain experience as a beautician, she worked in a salon in Tacoma and salons in Chehalis before opening up a salon in her home, which she operated for 24 years.

June was baptized on Nov. 2, 1958. In her adult life, she attended the Winlock and Napavine Baptist churches. She enjoyed attending monthly meetings of the Centralia/Chehalis Christian Women’s Connection. She also taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years.

June had many interests in her life. She enjoyed church activities, traveling, family research, crocheting, quilting, crafts, crossword puzzles and playing Scrabble.

June was preceded in death by her husband Harry Dale Layton, her parents Mr. and Mrs. O. R. Baxter, and all of her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her daughters Linda Peterson (Roland) and Patti Braunberger, her granddaughter Jennifer, and her kitty named Woody.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Sharon Care Center who lovingly took care of our mother in her last remaining days.
