In Loving Memory of Margaret Williams: 1926-2022

Posted

Margaret Carol Williams was born April 9, 1926, in Centralia, Washington, to parents John (J.W.) and Ruth Richter. She passed away Saturday, Sept. 3, 2022, at Prestige Post-Acute and Rehab Center in Centralia.

She was one of seven children growing up on the family farm on Lum Road. She graduated from Centralia High School, and then worked at the Coleman Travel Agency in the same city.

Margaret married Merwin Francis Williams on Aug. 9, 1947, and continued to work until their first child was born. They had four children: Gwen (Randy) Michael, of Olympia; Bob (Audrey) Williams, of Lakewood; Tom (Diane) Williams, of Rochester; and Terry (Linda) Williams, of Chehalis.

Margaret and Merwin were avid bowlers in their younger years, and the pair enjoyed camping and fishing as well. Once Merwin retired, however, golfing became their favorite pastime. The two played nearly every day through their later years, and Margaret was quite an accomplished golfer, competing in the Women’s Club matches at our local Newaukum Valley and Riverside courses.

Margaret is survived by her children, 11 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

The funeral Mass will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16, 2022, at St. Joseph’s Parish, Chehalis, and will be followed by a graveside service at Mountain View Cemetery in Centralia. Refreshments will be served immediately after at Newell-Hoerling’s Mortuary, 205 W. Pine St., Centralia.
