In Loving Memory of Robert Smith: 1945-2021

Posted

Robert Wayne “Bob” Smith, 76, of Winlock, Washington, left us for Heaven Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2021, from Sunnyside Medical Center in Clackamas, Oregon, due to complications stemming from a recent vaccination.

Bob was born June 9, 1945, in Portland, Oregon, to Fred Lee and Bertha (Rosencrantz) Smith. Bob lived in Woodland, Washington, for a time and graduated with Woodland High School’s class of 1963. He met his sweetheart Sheri Lee Meyer in Woodland that same year and married her in the nearby city of Longview on May 7, 1966. During this time, he served as a member of the Army National Guard for eight years during the Vietnam era. He and Sheri relocated to Vancouver, Washington, not long after and started a family. The couple ran Vancouver’s Bob Smith Chevron in 1970, followed by locations in Castle Rock, Toledo and Longview, around the time their family moved to Winlock in 1983

Bob was a man of integrity. He loved the Lord and his family and was a great support to his granddaughters. He enjoyed hunting deer and elk in Montana, Colorado, Idaho and Wyoming; playing Poker with his son, Doug; running his Kubota and other heavy equipment on his property; and making memories with his family at their property in Long Beach. He and Sheri traveled quite a bit in their fifth wheel as well. One year, they traveled the Baja Peninsula from San Diego to Cabo San Lucas with their dog!

Bob was preceded in death in October 2021 by his son, Douglas Wayne Smith, and by his parents.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sheri; son, Jason, and his wife Shannon Smith; granddaughters Marissa and Karlie; sisters, Dorothy Ramsay and Christine Cusick; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Bob’s life will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022, at Toledo First Baptist Church, with Pastor Joe Martin officiating. Interment will take place at Toledo Cemetery following the service, with light refreshments to follow at Fir Lawn Funeral Chapel, located next door.
