In Loving Memory of Rose Kitchel: 1936-2023

Posted

Rose H. Kitchel, 86, of Centralia, Washington, was welcomed by her Lord and savior with open arms on Jan. 18, 2023. Rose was born in North Dakota on April 2, 1936. She was the sixth child to Rochus and Irene Bonagofski. Rose migrated to the Western Washington area in 1949 and was raised with 13 siblings.

As a young woman, Rose embarked on a cosmetology career and opened La Jane’s Beauty Salon on Main Street. She then opened Mt. Vista Styling Salon where she presided as salon owner and apartment manager for many years.

Rose could often be seen flying through town going well over the speed limit to catch the Wednesday, Saturday or Sunday mass service at St. Mary’s, which she was always an hour early for. Saturday visits in her later years to Costco for white cheese pizza and Mountain Dew were her favorite.

Rose is survived by three daughters, Donna Steele (William “Bill” Steele), Debra Casassa and Denise Kitchel; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Donald L. Andrews Jr.

A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. on March 10, 2023, at St. Mary’s Catholic Parish. Her seat that she occupied for more than 30 years will be marked “reserved” in her remembrance. She is smiling at the thought. All who loved her are welcome to come celebrate her faith. An honorable spaghetti feed will be held in the parish hall following the mass.

She will be laid to a peaceful rest at 10 a.m. on March 13, 2023, at Grand Mound Cemetery. Her feisty, yet charming manner will be missed by all that had the pleasure of loving her.
