Russell “Rusty” “Russ” Dean Luft was a caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Russ passed away in a tragic motocross accident at the Riverdale Raceway in Toutle, Washington, on Sept. 4, 2022. He will be greatly missed by all his family and many friends.
Russ was born Dec. 1, 1959, to Everett and Shirley Luft in Centralia, Washington. He spent his life in the Lewis County area surrounded by family and friends. Russ married Tina Coates in 1981 and their only child, Ryan, was born in 1983. Russ worked for Sierra Pacific Industries for nine years as a mechanic and fabricator. His knowledge and skill will be greatly missed by his coworkers. He enjoyed walking his favorite four-legged friends daily. He was often seen at sporting and school events supporting his granddaughters with his dogs. Russ was well known for his love of motocross and trail riding. Even though he will be missed at home and the track, his family and friends are happy he was doing what he loved. He wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.
Russ is survived by his only son Ryan Luft (Katie), granddaughters Maleah and Adalynn, his sister Cindy Brooks, and countless nieces, nephews and many friends. Russ was preceded in death by his loving wife Tina Luft of 38 years, as well as his parents, two sisters and one brother.
We will have a celebration of life for Russ at 2 p.m. on Oct. 23, 2022, at Fort Borst Park Kitchen No. 2. Please bring your favorite memories to share, some tissues and your favorite side dish.
