In Loving Memory of Shirley Ann Solomon: 1934-2021

Posted

Shirley Ann Solomon, age 87, peacefully passed away, Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2021, at Providence Centralia Hospital. Shirley was born April 13, 1934, on the family farm in Enumclaw, Washington to LeRoy and Mary Keeley. She was the youngest daughter of eight children. She had the typical childhood and had a brief career working for Boeing Company while being a single mom raising her sons.

Shirley’s greatest joy was her family. There was always warm greetings, apple juice, and dixie cup ice cream for the children who stopped by to visit. Every Halloween large amounts of candy were given out to trick-or-treaters who stopped by the Centralia, Washington home. She enjoyed many camping excursions with her brothers and sisters, which she lovingly referred to as The Keeley Clan, and their families to Ashford, Washington almost every spring and summer holiday. Summer vacations were often spent at Long Beach with the kids or alone with her husband Mike. She and Mike enjoyed “alone” time traveling to Canada, Ocean Shores and Yuma, Arizona by train.

Her long battle with Parkinson’s disease never took away her cheery attitude of life. She was a lifelong Washington State Huskies fan and season ticket holder, even traveling to California when the chance arose to see the team make the Rose Bowl. Her love of Carol Burnett led her to be able to see her idol in person in Seattle on a weekend spent with family.

There was never a bad word spoken about her and she never uttered a bad word about anyone. She was the most amazing cook and could master any recipe and get it right the first time. Christmas Eve at the Solomon house was standing room only as the delicious delectables were abound.

She is survived by her son Dean T Kinney; her stepdaughter Marci Solomon; grandchildren Christopher Kinney, Joshua Kinney and Amber Ann Allosada; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her Son Howard Kinney, husbands Howard Kinney Sr, Walt Green, and Mike Solomon Sr.; brothers Neil Keeley and Roy Keeley Jr.; sisters Marge Scott, Dorothy Stergion and Rose Marie Devlin; parents LeRoy and Mary Keeley; and stepson Mike Solomon Jr.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021, from 12 to 1:30 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m., at Newell Hoerling’s Mortuary, 205 W. Pine St., Centralia, Washington. A reception with coffee and cookies will be held following the service at Newell Hoerling’s Mortuary.
