In Loving Memory of Virginia Mae Hoskinson: 1954-2021

Posted

Virginia Mae Hoskinson passed away peacefully at home on Aug. 4, 2021, in Winlock, Washington, where she resided 23 years. She was born Jan. 8, 1954, to Eugene and Dorothy Hoskinson in Seattle, Washington. Her early years were spent in Gig Harbor, Washington, but she grew up in Maple Valley, Washington, where she attended Tahoma High School. In her early adult life, she also lived in Kent, Renton and Bonney Lake.

Virginia worked in the service industry as a cashier and dishwasher before marrying in 1978 and becoming a mother in 1984. After her divorce in 1989, she worked for a while as a casual bartender, but was primarily a stay-at-home mom, raising her son in Kent as a single parent who did a lot with very little. In 1998, she relocated to Winlock to help care for her elderly parents and provide a better environment for her son.

Virginia was an awesome mother who was exceptionally proud of her son; she loved him more than anything in the world and would say that being a mother was her greatest accomplishment in life. She was an outgoing people-person who never met a stranger and loved talking to people. In return, she was cherished by everyone she met. She was happy and full of life, love, humor and wisdom. Virginia bonded with animals, especially horses and dogs. Going for car rides, spending time with her son, watching movies and being outdoors were her favorite things to do.

She is survived by her son, Michael Blessing, of Winlock; brother John Hoskinson, of Graham, Washington; sisters, Susan Remington, of Selah, Washington, and Jane Johnson, of Auburn, Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and sister, Mary Treat.
