Sloane Kruger and Tucker Land have taken very similar paths in their wrestling careers. Both finished fifth at state their freshman season and second the next two years before winning state titles this past February.
They both accomplished another feat in Reno, Nevada, recently, as they both earned titles at the Reno Worlds Wrestling Tournament.
Kruger, who was representing the Thurston County Wrestling Club, earned a first-round bye in the 18U Girls 100-pound bracket, then she pinned her quarterfinal opponent in the first round to make the semifinals.
She won that semi by major decision, then pinned her opponent in the championship match in the second round.
Land, who was representing Concede Nothing, went 5-0 to win at 18U boys 195 pounds, winning four of his five matches via pin. That includes the championship game, when he led 13-3 in the final round before pinning his opponent.
Nancy Nguyen and Isabella Chenard also wrestled in the tournament with the TCWC.
After losing in the quarterfinals at 185, Chenard won two consolation matches before falling in the consolation semis. She finished in sixth place. Nguyen also lost in the quarterfinals, and she went on to finish eighth.
Multiple other wrestlers from Concede Nothing also competed, including Peyton Hernandez, who made the championship bout and eventually took third, and Graysen Serl, who took seventh at 170.
