LCC’s Bench Dumps Blazers in Second Half

Centralia College women’s basketball trailed by just three after the first quarter, then two Lower Columbia bench players erupted for a scoring explosion in the second half to hand the Blazers a 71-57 defeat in Northwest Athletic Conference West Region action Wednesday.

“We just couldn’t score in the second quarter,” Centralia coach Caleb Sells said. “Defensively, we did a good job taking away their best kids. We just missed some shots we normally make.”

The Blazers locked down the Red Devil’s top scorers, but LCC had two bench players knock down 7 of 13 shots from beyond the arc.

“Kudos to them,” Sells said. “Their defense gave us just enough pressure to speed us up a bit. A 14-point game, a bucket here, a bucket there and it could be a different game.”

Allison DeBerry led the Blazers with 15 points while Paige Winter added 13 points.

Centralia College (8-6, 2-1 West Region) heads to Pierce College on Saturday.
