I am pleased to write a letter of support for the upcoming educational programs and operations replacement levy for the Mossyrock School District.
I have lived in the district for the past 27 years. I worked in education for 44 years as a teacher, coach and administrator. No matter what position I held, the importance of communication and teamwork between students, school personnel, parents and community was a vital key to the success of the district.
The State of Washington does not “fully fund” basic education. Unfortunately, school districts must run and pass additional educational and operations levies to support instructional personnel and student programs.
The Mossyrock schools are the “center” of the community. When new families consider Mossyrock for future residence, they will research the strengths of the district for their children’s education. In small communities like Mossyrock, pride and enthusiasm revolves around the schools. People want to live and work in a district that takes pride in “strong schools.” Extracurricular activities are programs that often keep students excited about school.
I have observed and worked with school districts that have failed levies, which resulted in lost revenue, reduced school personnel and elimination of extracurricular activities.
A failed levy does not address concerns and problems, it only increases them. It may take years to recuperate these losses.
I recommend that district voters become familiar with the three-year educational programs and operations replacement levy. With school, parent and community support, you give students a chance for success.
