Letter to the editor: A new bridge over the Chehalis River? Fix or replace existing spans first

Posted

Why is the state contemplating building more exit entrance ramps on Interstate 5 and planning on building another bridge over the Chehalis River at the Scheuber Road when what needs to be done is replacing existing old dilapidated infrastructure and widening the freeway through the Twin Cities?

The money they are planning on spending on their proposed, so called improvements could be better spent replacing the state Route 6 bridge at Chehalis and widening both northbound and southbound lanes to three lanes.

Also the two bridges on state Route 6, one at Pluvius and the other just at the Lewis County-Pacific County line. All three are dangerously outdated bridges. Let’s spend our taxpayer money wisely not on additional infrastructure when existing infrastructure is old, outdated and dangerous to those who travel over them.
