Letter to the Editor: Christmas Is Truly the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Posted

Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. In the year 2022, many things seem topsey-turvey. I am a senior among seniors. Some might call me an “old codger.” I hope I have gained wisdom, but fully know I am still learning.

My thoughts are filled with how lucky we are to live in Lewis County with so many Christmas celebrations. Parades, caroling, The Nutcracker, lights in Fort Borst Park, the bell ringing concert, and the list could go on and on.

I am not “drumming,” a personal dislike of mine. Choice belongs to each of us. But I do have a strong suggestion for all. Make time in the busy holiday season to read in the New Testament of the Bible Luke chapter 2. Read it from an old King James Bible, or one of the newer Bibles.

The writer Luke was a physician, inspired by God in the year 60 AD. Luke 2 fulfills the numerous predictions of the Old Testament. It is the true meaning of Christmas. Its words will reward both young and old. Read it alone or share it with others.

We are consumed by numerous fantasy traditions that are fun and joyous at Christmastime. Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer, Santa, Frosty the Snowman and many more. We enjoy holiday TV programs, music and scrumptious holiday food. No one can deny how fortunate Lewis County individuals are. Our holiday caring and generosity should be carried throughout the entire year to anyone less fortunate.

Luke was written for the entire world and all generations. Smile and wish “Merry Christmas” to everyone you meet. Christmas is truly the most wonderful time of the year.
