To the Centralia City Council:
Please consider not canceling the Veterans Memorial Pearl Street Pool renovation. Many people have been working tirelessly for many years to restore it. Why have you been blocking their efforts? I know Thorbeckes has a pool that charges higher fees than most people can afford.
I grew up here and used that pool so I wouldn’t have to go to Plummer’s Lake, the Chehalis River or the Skookumchuck River, which didn’t have affordable facilities or life guards and a place to change or shower. We even used the pool in cold weather as part of our high school gym classes. Many learned to swim or lifeguard skills.
The pool is also dedicated to the veterans who served our country and should be a reminder of the sacrifices they made protecting our country,
With the proper renovation, this pool can again be a safe swimming area in the middle of Centralia for future generations to learn and grow.
